Style Spotlight: HAIM

STYLE SPOTLIGHT #1 |HAIM

(From Left to Right: Danielle, Alana and Este at a Fendi event.)

HAIM is an insanely talented girl rock band made up of sisters Danielle, Este and Alana ('the' quintessential downtown LA girls in my opinion!). Apart from their awesome music, the girls each have their own unique style which translates to a one of a kind aesthetic when together as a band. In this new series I'll be showcasing figures in fashion, music and film who inspire me and delve a little deeper into their style choices. Read on for some style inspiration!

DaNiElLe
Notorious for wearing oversized ACNE leather jackets, band tees and vintage denim cut offs (soooo rock chic), she's currently been on a kind of style evolution lately, incorporating more classic tailored pieces into her looks, but is still partial to the 70's rock aesthetic on stage (which suits her down to a T in my opinion!).

EsTe
If you've been lucky to see the band live, you would know about the legendary faces she makes when playing the Bass (seriously its on another level haha). To me her style is more 'quirky girly' in terms of the silhouettes she favours, which is predominately skater skirts and dresses. Tres chic!

AlAnA
'Babyhaim' aka the baby sister of the group, Alana's style can best be described as eclectic boho. She's the quintessential Chloe girl, who can rock a flow chiffon bell arm blouse with Levi 501 cutoffs one moment, and a minimal jumpsuit with flares, the next. I would say that her style is a perfect mixture of her sisters and with her own unique spin on it (which I'm really loving!).

It's been 3 years since they released their last album 'Days Are Gone' but its now said that they're working on new music and my inner fangirl can't wait (especially for the album styling)!

Style Inspo: 90's style sports jackets

Guy's I think I have a new style obsession: 90's style sports jackets. They're a really functional piece and can be a great alternative to the tried and tested parka and leather jackets. Read on to see how I style three outfits with this jacket!

'The jacket'

#1 Going Shopping

With this casual going shopping look, I went for the comfy dungaree option, made slightly more on trend with the subtle crop and flare silhouette. Of course the obligatory choker necklace added another 90's dimension to the outfit and the Alma bb gave this a feminine touch and this colour literally goes with EVERYTHING, so great cost per wear!

#2 Casual Date Night

One of my fave looks to style, this date night outfit is sexy but with an edge! I thought to offset the boxiness of the jacket, a more form fitting dress with a choker element would be the way to go. I chose black boots and the black dress for the simple reason that I wanted the jacket to do all the talking and have the accessories play off the colours on the jacket. This gorgeous blue suede bag is such a good statement piece and I've used it here as it can double as a clutch if you tuck the chain in!

#3 Uni-lecture

Ah how I miss those morning University lectures every morning (just joking) but it does make it better when you're outfit is on point and is simple and super comfortable. I chose the Asos Farleigh Jeans because they work well in any weather which is great for the student budget, and this 70's vintage looking tee from Pull&Bear with some metallic jute sandals, which are perfect for spring! The Zara backpack is a cute necessity for carrying the laptop and books, and is in this lovely spring summer pastel which would look great with more dressy outfits.

What's in my bag? Essentials Edition

Welcome to a blog edition of what's in my bag! I thought I would just switch it up for this post and show you what essentials I carry around with me everyday all day and a quick review of them! These include a mix of make-up, my favourite everyday bag and my lucky makeup bag (trust me the jams this bag has gotten me out of knows no bounds!). I've also included links to the items that are still currently being sold, if you would like to buy or check them out!

 #1 'Lucky' make-up bag

Let me tell you, this make-up bag has been through it all: been on countless floors, chucked in an out of my bags and still has to be one of my treasured possessions! To be honest it was originally my mums, but when I first laid eyes on the rose gold finish I knew I had to have it! Although it's slightly tattered now, it has seen me through tricky situations and for that I think I'll hold on it a while longer (that's if it doesn't fall completely apart by then!).

#2 'Trusty' Concealer

This is the NARS radiant creamy concealer- honestly the best concealer I've used in a long time! The consistency is great (not too thick or too thin) and basically brightens and colour corrects at the same time, which is perfect for keeping the 'I stayed up all night and have panda eyes' look at bay.

#3 'Miracle' Mascara

When I last visited MAC for an eyeliner, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a mini sample of this mascara! Having nearly used it up, it is honestly REALLY good and definitely does what it says on the tin. It adds length but you don't have to constantly pump the brush to get product onto your lashes, so a little goes a long way. The consistency is good as high end mascaras go, and one of the major plus points is that it doesn't clump up on the lashes and the black pigment makes your lashes look really thick.

#4 'On-point' Brows

Everyone and their mother were raving about the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow pomade (and rightly so all her products are great) but I needed something to tame my brows and give definition and at a more economical price point; after searching high and low for the perfect one, my eyes clapped on this one from NYX. I have to say it's definitely good value for money, its extremely pigmented so applying it with a light hand would definitely be the way to go if you're after a natural brow finish and it actually lasts and doesn't transfer which is a major thing considering I have really oily skin.

#5 'Moisturising Matte' Lip pencil

In the beauty world the long lasting trend that is matte lips shows no signs of slowing down any time soon, especially because of the popularity of the Kylie lip kits, Stilla liquid lipsticks and these NARS lip pencil beauties. I was keen to get my hands on these after looking at sooooo many positive reviews and the large colour range on offer, so I took the plunge and bought the pencil in the hypnotic deep aubergine colour. The formula is definitely moisturising, but honestly speaking, I think due to the colour it doesn't apply evenly, and I found myself applying several times to get close to an even finish. That being said, it's a gorgeous colour and would make for a striking winter lip colour !

#6 'Perfect Finish' Brush

This brush certainly packs a punch: it's multipurpose, has THE softest bristles and leaves your skin with the perfect even finish. I mainly use it for the odd touch up here and there (especially if my face stops co-operating and starts shining like a beacon!) with my Bobbi brown translucent powder and it also doubles as a great blusher and highlighter brush (just pinch the sides of the brush) if you're on the go and need to quickly apply your make-up!

And finally, the 'piece de resistance' my favourite everyday bag...

 The 'Handy' Handbag

This hands down has to be one of my most used bags! It's really versatile and goes with most of my clothes (despite the noticeable snake-skin print) and it has multiple compartments so it definitely holds its own against the bigger bags in my collection. I bought it in the Mango sale last year for £17.99 but the faux leather finish and the hardware makes it look way more expensive!

Those were my handbag essentials, but I'd love to hear what yours are and which bag you wear the most! Comment down below
