Purple Reign 👑

I'm sure by now you've all seen the news that the music legend and fashion innovator Prince passed away yesterday. To me, he really was an inspiration in because he didn't conform to conventions both in his music and how he dressed. One of my all time favourite pictures of him is on the purple rain album cover (you know the one with the purple suit and curly faux hawk hairstyle) and being a big fan of his fashion I wanted to share my all-time favourite Prince fashion moments, so here goes.

Op-ed 'High fashion streetwear': Is the pricing disproportionate?

The fashion industry is always changing in response to pop culture, world events and through appreciation of the past. For quite some seasons now, there seems to be a penchant for everything casual: pyjama inspired tailoring, luxe sweatshirts, and street style aesthetic.

Is the pricing disproportionate?
The juggernaut that is Vetements is the current poster child for this movement of streetwear influenced high fashion, with hoodies and t-shirts that many believe have been marketed at a disproportionate retail price. Or have they? Street wear labels such as Supreme, Hood by Air and Off-White are all examples of labels that are rooted in the streetwear aesthetic, but through the use of fabrics and silhouettes (usually found in more traditional high fashion houses) elevates the concept of streetwear and accordingly the price will be higher than your average sweatshirt because of the detail that has gone into making it. A Vetements hoodie may be expensive, but just like the brands I've mentioned above, it is this level of detail put into the garment, such as the versatility of the hood placement and the now distinctive elongated arm silhouette that warrants such a price tag. It's arguably no different to what a designer in a traditional house would do: i.e. aiming to create a distinctive signature with the design and applied techniques.

Ivy Park: The ‘Must Have’ Pieces!

It’s finally here! Ivy Park, a gym wear label founded as a joint venture between Beyonce’s company Parkwood and Acardia (which own’s Topshop), launches in Topshop stores and online today on the 15th of April. The great thing about the line is that she’s divided the line into active and casual wear so even if you don’t plan on working out, you can still  incorporate them into everyday outfits as well- yay!
According to Beyonce this isn’t a run of the mill celeb collaboration, speaking in the Elle UK May 2016 issue she said “We really took our time, developed custom technical fabrics and tried to focus on pushing athletic wear further.” There’s definitely a wide variety, ranging from crop tops and basketball shirts all the way to classic stretch leggings and sports bras. Beyonce herself has been sporting some of these items so be prepared for a quick sell out (especially if the bey hive are involved!).
These are my top picks from the collection:

Uncle Karl

This Karl needs no introduction. From his signature look of a white shirt, all black suit and a perfectly coiffured grey ponytail, as a designer he has already ascended to legendary status in the fashion industry, but shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon!
In his tenure as head designer at mega heritage rich power houses like Chanel and Fendi, he brought to the forefront so many cult classics, like the CC lock on the Chanel handbags and the now infamous Fendi bag bugs. Not only that, he also has his own namesake label that is just as chic, he's growing influence in pop culture cements him as the undisputed king of cool.

Here are some of my favourite moments where Karl has influenced fashion!

Trend Alert: Slippers

I never thought in a million years that I would consider slippers as fashion must haves, but lately this seems to be a trend quickly gaining traction. Gucci's Alessandro Michele (one of my faves) has created the perfect vintage style slipper in so many lush styles, but other brands and the high street have quickly taken note and designed their own versions too. Let's take a quick look!
